A hairy friend

Nope, not our monster. We learned about Tarantulas today. This one is 17 years old. She is a female. Her name is Wilhemina. Most of the class gave her a pet. She bites when scared, but she's not poisonous.

Model complete!

We have created the model for our monster. We started brainstorming how we'll build it. We're going to need to get some supplies.

Here's our Final Model for our Monster. Isn't she scary?

It takes a lot of commitment to make a monster. We've done a lot, but we still have more to do.

As we plan, you should browse the pictures we each drew of the monster. As we draw our own version it gives us a chance to think about what we did together and if there are any changes we would make in our own version.

Feel free to compare our Model or our versions to the descriptions we used to make our monster. What do you think? How'd we do?

Writing

Here's our Tuesday morning writing assignment.

Pretty fun, eh?

Here's what we wrote. (Some of us are still finishing the assignment. More pictures soon.)

Steps 13-18

We have a ways to go, but we are making progress!!! Look at how scary our monster is. We just finished the eyes here. As we were doing the eyes, we discussed sclera, pupils and irises. (See the Wikipedia if you have questions!)

Now we start on the teeth with Miss Shih.

We were VERY excited about the teeth because we made the description. See it?

We all have opinions and we try to remember to raise our hands during the discussion.

Here's where we ended on Tuesday, October 7th. We hope to finish up the model of our monster this week and then we'll determine how much we can build.

We're learning a lot along the way and it's taking some time to discuss what all the descriptive words mean. We need to learn some more about Tumbleweeds. The ears are supposed to be like them, and to have bugs crawling around in them. We'll let you know more about what we learn. We drew a place holder for now.

This is fun!

How to make a monster in 26 steps

5 down and 21 to go!

We took a look at the descriptions of all the parts and decided how we should start. We decided we needed to build our foundation of the monster. We discussed what a monster foundation might be. We thought about the feet and legs and the body and decided that all the monster parts attach to the body so we decided to start there.

Here is a picture of our monster model as we were starting. We had just figured out what the body would look like and then went to work on the legs.

We're projecting the description up on the whiteboard and drawing on it too. It's fun, but it's taking us a while to work through it. We made it through the legs, the arms, the neck and then the head. We discussed the descriptions and decided together how things might look.

Next, we each decided to draw what we thought the monster might look like. This gives us a chance to be creative and make any changes. We'll come back and discuss this more next week.

Here's some of our pictures. We're working hard!

More soon! We'll probably tackle some more monster parts at our stations on Friday. We'll work together again next week.
