2009

It's now our Second Monster, but it's our first monster when we collaborate with another class. We're so excited to be doing the monster project again and you can read more about the project at this link.

The monster project is a super fun project where we collaborate and create a monster. We one of many classes from around the world who create a monster. First we create a description of one monster part. Then we read the descriptions of all the parts and figure out how to create the monster. Then we build our monster. Then it's Halloween and we have a HUGE spooky friend in our classroom. Along the way we learn about geography, math, writing, and collaboration.

Ms. S and Ms. W's classes are going to work together.

Ms. S has a first grade class and created a monster last year.

Ms. W teaches second grade and is new to the project, but Ms. W has some of Ms. S's students from last year.

Some of Ms. W's students will build their second monster working with kids who are building their first monster. It's exciting.

We had our introduction to the project on 10/2, 2009. We learned about adjectives so we could write a description of a "monster part." We also learned some geography as classes from around the world. Here are some pictures.

We begin to write our monster part description with lots of adjectives.

We learn where, in the world, some of the other classes doing this project are located.

Here's our worksheet to work on with a partner. We draw a picture of what we think the Monster part will look like and then we write down adjectives.

Here we are working. The second graders and the first graders worked together really well. Everyone was engaged in the process.
